Add Learning UnitMore InformationThe Add Learning Unit tool lets you create a learning unit in any of the content areas. Learning units are organized collections of content that your students move through on a structured path. They can contain documents, assignments, media files, website links, quizzes, and surveys. You can let your students view them sequentially or in any order.
Adding a Learning Unit
From the Control Panel:
- Click on the Content Area link where you want this learning unit added (Syllabus, Course Materials, Assignments, External Links).
- Choose Learning Unit from the
Add Other drop-down menu on the right of the screen.
- Click on the
Go button.
- Choose a name from the Name drop-down menu or enter the name of the learning unit in the text field.
- Enter a description in the Text field.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on the Submit button.
Options:
Adding Content to a Learning Unit
- Do you want to make the Learning Unit visible? – Enable this option to give your students access to your learning unit.
- Do you want to enforce sequential viewing of the Learning Unit? – Enable this option to have your students go through the content in the order you set.
- Do you want the Learning Unit to open in a new window? – Enable this option to have the learning unit open in a window separate from the course site.
- Do you want to track number of views? – Enable this option to track how many times individual users access your item.
- Do you want to add metadata? – Enable this option to add metadata. Metadata is data about the learning unit, such as ownership, resource format, and copyright information.
- Choose date restrictions – Enable both the Display After and the Display Until options to control when your learning unit is visible. This automates the “make the Learning Unit visible” option.
From the Control Panel:
- Click on the Content Area link where the learning unit is located (Syllabus, Course Materials, Assignments, External Links).
- Click on the Learning Unit link.
- Click on the icon of the type of content you wish to add.

A: Yes, you can use the numbered drop-down menus to the left of the content name to reorder each item. The numbers represent the order in which your students will sequentially view your learning unit.
